2009 BCJALL All-Star Team Announced

August 17, 2009
The BCJALL announced its annual league award winners this past week and Nanaimo's Colton Clark was named to the 2nd Team All-Star.

In his 2nd season with the Jr. A Timbermen, Clark amassed 25 goals, 44 assists for 69 points in 19 games; with just 6 minutes in penalties. A dominant right handed shooter, Clark was moved to a transition player this season to make better use of his size and speed and it paid dividends at crucial times throughout the season.

Congratulations, Colton! Good luck at school this year!

New West Again is Playoff Opponent

July 6, 2009
The New Westminster Salmonbellies will be the Timbermens' opponent for the third year in a row for the first round of the BCJLL playoffs.

After spectacular performances by rookie goaltender Scott Bannister in the final three games of the season, the Timbermen proved that they can play and win against any BCJLL team. With an 11-10 loss to Coquitlam; an 11-10 win over PoCo to solidify a playoff spot and a 13-12 overtime loss to Burnaby (taking away 5th place), the T-Men have to prepare to face the fish.

Game #1 of the playoffs (2 out of 3 series) takes place at 5:00pm on Saturday July 11th at the Queens Park Arena. Game #2 takes place at 5:00pm at the Nanaimo Ice Centre on Sunday July 12th and Game #3 (if necessary) will happen at 7:00pm at the Queens Park Arena on Tuesday July 14th; the first mid-week game in Jr. lacrosse since the days of the Jr.'s and Sr's. sharing the cost of flying back and forth from the mainland for games.

The Timbermen are seeking the support of the City of Nanaimo to help them "Squish the Fish!" Come out Sunday to help the T-Men in their quest to win the West. Lots of excitement, entertainment and prizes to be had this Sunday July 12th.

Playoff Bound - Another Milestone Reached

July 4, 2009
The Jr. Timbermen have clinched their third consecutive birth into the BCJLL playoffs tonight by defeating the Port Coquitlam Saints today by the score of 11-10.

On the heals of a stellar goaltending performance by Scott Bannister, the T-Men followed up their previous game with another near 60 minute effort. Leading the way offensively was rookie Kyle Hofer (2g,4a), Cody Bremner (4g) and Colton Clark (2g,2a). The defence was anchored with strong performances by Spencer Skillings, Greg Simpson and Nolan Maughan.

Next up for the Timbermen is tomorrow afternoon when the Lakers from Burnaby come to town. Game time is 5:00pm.

The Timbermen also set a franchise record today by winning their 8th game of the season, 1 game more than last years previous mark of 7 victories. Come on out to see the T-Men shoot for 9! Reminder; get to the arena early to get a team picture for 'Fan Appreciation Day' and go to the floor after the game for an autograph signing.

Fan Appreciation Day

July 3, 2009
The Jr. Timbermen will hold 'Fan Appreciation Day' on Sunday July 5th at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Paying respect to the great fans of Nanaimo is the purpose of the last home game of the regular season. Tickets go on sale in the arena lobby 30 minutes before the start of the game. Game time is at 5:00pm.

There will be a limited number of team photos available on a 'first come, first served' basis. Before the game, purchase your lucky program as there will be a lots of prizes to be won; including a number of NLL keepsakes. After the game, bring your family to the floor and get all of your Junior Timbermen autographs.

Playoffs to be Determined this Weekend

July 2, 2009
The Timbermen will face the New Westminster Salmonbellies in the first round if one of two things occur this weekend. If Delta defeats PoCo on Friday night, the Timbermen are in. If PoCo wins, then the Timbermen will have to defeat the PoCo Saints on Saturday in PoCo to get the final playoff spot. If not, the Timbermen will have to win against the Burnaby Lakers on Sunday to secure their spot in the post season dance.

An outside chance at 5th place can be had if the Delta Islanders lose both of their games this weekend and the Timbermen win both of theirs.

Lacrosse Loses Another Builder

June 20, 2009
Many of the Nanaimo Jr. A Timbermen have known Brian Mayzes over a number of years. He has been with the Jr. Shamrocks for the past 3 seasons as the Head Scout; as well as a builder within the Saanich Minor Lacrosse Association for a great many years.

Brian leaves behind his wife Dianne and sons Scott and Cory. You will be missed Brian.

BCJLL Player of the Week

June 8, 2009
The BCJLL have announced that Nanaimo's Colton Clark is Player of the Week for week #6.

Colton had 3 goals, 6 assists for 9 points in 2 games played, with 0 penalty minutes.

Clark is enjoying the move to transitional play and is getting a few more opportunities to use his size and speed over the full floor and is producing quite nicely for the Timbermen. Colton currently sits in 7th place in BCJLL scoring. Congratulations Colton!

In addition, Scott Bannister has a 9.21 GAA and a 81.21 save percentage; moving him up the goaltending ranks; and now sits 4th amoungst active goaltenders.

Looking to the Skies

June 5, 2009
The Jr. A Timbermen host the Langley Thunder tonight at the NIC; game time is 8:00pm.

Nanaimo has faced a few hardships over the past 2 weeks and are looking to rebound with shortened roster. Injuries and player commitments have put the Jr. Timbermen behind the 8 ball but a win tonight over the Thunder will catapult the axe swingers into a tie for 4th spot.

The Jr. Timbermen will then travel to Port Coquitlam on Sunday to face the Saints, a game that could give them sole possession of 4th place and would show a tremendous turnaround to the season.

The summer weather has come and not many wish to be indoors with this weather but an 8:00pm game time tonight should give everyone an opportunity to enjoy the sun, have dinner and catch the Jr. Timbermen at the NIC.

Frank Crane Arena Hosts Jr. Timbermen

May 28, 2009
The Jr. Timbermen will play tomorrow night and Sunday June 1st at the Frank Crane Arena due to a convention scheduled at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

After a heartbreaking loss to the Delta Islanders last Sunday, the Timbermen look to get back on track when the Burnaby Lakers come to town tomorrow night. Game time is at 7:00pm.

Sunday, the undefeated Coquitlam Adanacs come to Beban Park to face the Timbermen.

Thunder Now A Whisper

May 23, 2009
The Langley Thunder hosted the Nanaimo Timbermen at the brand new Langley Events Centre and reluctantly gave the visiting Timbermen their 3rd consecutive win of the season.

A back and forth first period saw the T-Men lead the Thunder by the score of 3-2. The second period was a special teams affair with 2 short handed goals and a powerplay goal top the 4 goals scored, two by each team; score after two periods was 5-4 for the T-Men. The Timbermen outscored the Thunder 3-2 in the third period.

The Timbermen sailed back to the Island with a 8-6 victory and a jump in the standings to a fourth place tie with the Port Coquitlam Saints.

Leading the way for the T-Men was Ryan Forslund (2g, 2a), Mitch McLaren (2g), and singles from Higgs, Bremner, Langlois and Bancroft. Assists came from: Mitchell, Gains, Noble, Kelly, Skillings and Clark.
Next game for the Timbermen is on Sunday May 24th in Nanaimo against the Delta Islanders.

Winning Streak At Two Games

May 18, 2009
The Timbermen hosted the Salmonbellies for the first time this season and it was their 3rd and final meeting of the season barring a playoff match-up.

Back from injury, Ryan Forslund has been a huge boost to the left hand side potting the first goal of the game on the powerplay, his first of 3 on the night. Scoring went back and forth throughout the first period with additional contributions from Diplock, Mitchell and Higgs. Period 1 ending in a 5-5 tie.

The Timbermen's offence took over in the 2nd period and with quick ball movement, outscored the 'Bellies 5-2 in the middle frame to take a 10-7 lead into the 3rd period.

The 'Bellies tallied 3 in the third but it wasn't enough as the T-Men opened and closed the period with goals and defeated the visitors by the score of 12-10. Jon Diplock was the story for the T-Men this game scoring 3 goals, 3 assists for a total of 6 points on the night. Something he said he would like to do in his final year with the Timbermen; be a threat and lead by example. A role the assistant captain is now relishing.

One for the 'Win' Column

May 16, 2009
Burnaby hosted Nanaimo yesterday hoping to keep the Timbermen in the basement of league standings but the T-Men had other ideas for the Lakers.

Nine different players scored one goal or more for the Timbermen as they defeated the Burnaby Lakers 15-12 at the Copeland Arena yesterday. Leading Nanaimo's scoring was Colton Clark (3g, 4a), Mitch McLaren (2g, 4a), Jon Diplock (1g, 4a), Kyle Hofer (2g, 1a), Steve Higgs (2g, 1a), Cody Bremner (2g), Mitch Bancroft (1g, 1a), Ryan Forslund (1g, 1a), singles went to Doug Langlois (1g). Cody Rainaldi, Morgan Mitchell and Robbie Pierson all added assists.

Next up is the Salmonbellies whom travel to the island to play at the Lumberyard (NIC) today at 5:00pm. The Timbermen have been on a 5 game road trip and are loking forward to playing at home in front of a large crowd this evening.

Righting The Ship

May 15, 2009
The Jr. A Timbermen are looking at this weekend as a definite "Righting of the Ship" so to speak.

Signed players; Cody Bremner, Steve Higgs and a few more uncarded players are back from school commitments and are looking to make an impact for the Timbermen. The only player not to have returned as of yet is Curt Brown; he is to arrive in Nanaimo on Sunday from Denver where his SFU Clansmen field lacrosse team were defeated in the quarter finals by Chapman College.

Although no game has been a huge blowout, it has been 1 period in a game that has sunk the Timbermen. The T-Men travel to Burnaby to face the Lakers tomorrow afternoon and then come home to the NIC on Sunday May 17th to host the New Westminster Salmonbellies in their 3rd and final meeting of the season.

Timbermen vs. Shamrocks - Rnd. 2

May 9, 2009
The Nanaimo Timbermen have a busy weekend ahead of them with two away games. Saturday they travel to Duncan to face their Island rivals; the Victoria Shamrocks (7:00pm).

The Shamrocks took Game #1 by the score of 12-6 at the NIC Arena. The Timbermen allowed the 'Rocks to bang and push them around all night, enabling the Shamrocks to dictate the style of the game that would be played. That needs to change tonight in order for the T-Men to come away with a victory.

The Cowichan Valley Lacrosse Association will be celebrating their 10th Anniversary tonight with festivities throughout the evening. Congratulations to the CVLA!

Sunday the Timbemren sail across the strait back to New Westminster again to avenge the loss from 1 week ago.

Down But Not Out

May 4, 2009
The Timbermen have not started the season where they would have liked. Nanaimo has players away at school and have had to contend with early season injuries but they are trying to make lemonade out of lemons.

Unfortunately, each time the Jr. Timbermen prepare for a BCJLL game; they did themselves into a hole. Sunday May 3rd, the T-Men prepared for New West with 20 players in their line-up, some from Jr. B and Intermediate A. Before they got to New West, the Timbermen were down 3 players and preparing to play short-staffed. Compounding the situation, the Timbermen forgot their game on the ferry it seemed and fell behind 7-0 in the first period.

The Timbermen found their game and roared back in the 2nd and 3rd periods behind the offensive leadership of Colton Clark (6pts), Jon Diplock (5pts) and Kyle Hofer (4pts) and the 'D' of goaltender Robbie Pierson but it was not enough to climb back as the Timbermen lost by the score of 14-9.

Going Fishing

May 2, 2009
The Nanaimo Timbermen travel to Queens Park on Sunday to face the 'Bellies in New Westminster's home opener.

The Timbermen will have sniper Colton Clark back in the line-up as well as Mitch McLaren, both back from Bellarmine University in Kentucky.

Nanaimo is now facing new adversity; as they have now just had a new rash of injuries and are trying to catch a break from the injury bug. The T-Men hope that call-ups Eric Brabander, Harlen Miller and Spencer Skillings can all make an immediate impact and assist while players are at a premium.

The squad returns home for 2 practices before it goes back on the road on Saturday May 9th in Duncan to face the Victoria Shamrocks and again on Sunday May 10th back at Queens Park Arena to face the 'Bellies, yet again.

Season Start... Something to Build On

April 27, 2009
ROCKS 12 - T-MEN 6: The Nanaimo Timbermen opened their regular season at home in front of over 500 fans on Friday night but were not able to send their lacrosse hungry fans home with a victory.

The Shamrocks came in with a little more jump in their step and a few players back from taking a weekend off from NLL games and were able to thwart any type of offensive attack the Timbermen could muster.

With period leads of 4-1 and 9-4, the Shamrocks went on to defeat the Timbermen 12-6 in the BCJALL league opener.

ADANACS 9 - T-MEN 7: The Adanacs hosted the Timbermen on Sunday and did not welcome them with open arms. The hosts borke hard on and off the bench in the first frame to take a commanding 5-0 lead before the Timbermen's Langlois finally put one by the Coquitlam netminder; the Adanacs took a 5-1 lead into the dressing room.

The Timbermen started the 2nd period with a completely different attitude and took control of the period from the home club. Fitness looked to be a factor as the Timbermen carried all fast break opportunities and the A's seemed sluggish. The score now tied going into the 3rd.

Nanaimo took some undeciplined penalties as well as failed to communicate on defence which allowed the A's to capitalize on some nifty 2 on 1 pick and rolls as well as cuts underneath the 'D'. The Timbermen corrected those errors late in the period and mustered another couple of goals but the time ran out on the visiting T-Men. Final score 9 - 7.

Pre-Season Report - Opening Night to Sell-Out

April 23, 2009
The Nanaimo Timbermen have a busy weekend ahead of them with their home and season opener on Friday April 24th against Island rivals; the Victoria Shamrocks (8:00pm) and their second game in 3 days on Sunday against last seasons regular season champions, the Coquitlam Adanacs (5:00pm). The Timbermen look to sell over 500+ tickets for opening night with Victoria entering the 'forest' of the NIC Arena.

TIMBERMEN RARING TO GO: The Nanaimo Timbermen get set to kick off their fifth British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League campaign on Friday at home with their season-opening game against the Shamrocks (8:00pm). The busy weekend then continues on Sunday afternoon when the axe wielding T-Men pay a visit to Coquitlam in their home opener (5:00pm). Last season, the Timbermen finished the regular season with a sub-par 7-14 record. After upsetting the New Westminster Salmonbellies 10-8 on the road in the opening round of the playoffs, the 'T-Men earned a second home contest against the Salmonbellies, who ran off with a 9-2 victory and eliminating the Timbermen 3 games to 1.

LAST YEAR'S LEADERS: Aged-up forward and league Rookie of the Year; Cody Bremner led all Timbermen in scoring last season with 42 goals and 22 assists for 64 points in 21 games. Right handed sniper Colton Clark had 30 goals and a team-leading 31 assists for 61 points in 21 games. Transition specialist Matt Wray played tough and physical all season leading the team with 70 minutes in penalties, tallying 5 goals and 15 assists in 21 games for Nanaimo to finish with 20 points. Behind Bremner's 2 game winning goals, five different players (Lohr, Pelletier, Clark, Dietterle and Higgs) scored the other game-winning goals. Goalie trio Drew Dickie, Sam Corcoran and Robbie Pierson combined for 703 saves last year; all combined had an 8.32 goals against average and .760 save percentage. With Dickie graduated and Corcoran taking a year off for personal reasons, Pierson will look to carry the load of the shots.

NEW FACES: Defenceman Todd Whittaker rejoins the Timbermen this season after spending the 2008 season on the shelf due to injury. The 6' 0", 210lb native of Nanaimo, B.C. has been a fixture in Nanaimo lacrosse since picking up a stick 14 years ago. Trevor Gains comes to the Timbermen in a trade with the New Westminster Salmonbellies and will also lead the defence along with Whittaker. Rookie Kyle Hofer has been phenomenal in preseason action and the Jr's will be looking to him to keep up his play for the 2009 campaign. Sophomore rookies Cody Rainaldi and Nolan Maughan, younger brother of former Timbermen Matt Maughan, also cracked Nanaimo's roster after each taking a season off to work outside of B.C. or travel. Left handed defencemen/transition Greg Simpson and Mitch Bancroft passed up the "Green & White" pastures of Victoria to travel the Malahat to don the "Timbermen Axe". Recent Nanaimo Int. A graduate; Nick Peeke-Vout, has emerged as a nice addition to the Jr. Timbermen and will look to get his feet wet on opening night. Doug Langlois led the TOJLL with 31 goals, 27 assists for 58 pts with the Rutland Raiders and has made the permanent move to the Hub City.TOJLL standouts Logan Strohm, Jarrett Medhurst, and Riley Donahue will be wearing the Timbermen jersey throughout the season as they will be doing double-duty with the Timbermen and their respective TOJLL teams. Newly acquired rookie goaltender; Scott Bannister and Cowichan Jr. B Thunder 'keeper Matt Hiebert will take on the task of backing up Pierson.

RETURNING TIMBERMEN: After spending the past two years splitting playing time between field lacrosse at Lindenwood University and box here at home, forward Jon Diplock is attending school locally and is prepared for the start of this 2009 lacrosse campaign. Diplock was an aged up Intermediate and has played every season with the Jr. A Timbermen, since it's induction five seasons ago. Morgan Mitchell, Kyle Noble, Sam Kobe, Ryan Forslund and Andrew Kelly are all returning to the T-Men for the 2009 lacrosse season and will look to help improve on their 7-14 record from one year ago.

LATE ARRIVALS: With successful Intermediate or Junior seasons behind them the following players will be arriving late to the Timbermen. Cody Bremner (Victoria Grizzlies) will be playing in the Royal Bank Cup and Steven Higgs is attending Onondaga Community College, both will not be available until after May 10th. Colton Clark and Mitch McLaren are attending Bellarmine University in Kentucky and won't be seeing action until the second weekend of the season. Curt Brown (Simon Fraser University) may be away for the first 7 games of the season if his SFU Clansmen make it to the MCLA National Championships in Denver Colorado.

TIMBERMEN VS. SHAMROCKS: Last season, the Timbermen went 0-3 vs. the Shamrocks. After losing 11-2 in their first regular season meeting, the Timbermen closed the gap losing 11-10 in overtime on May 9th and 9-7 on July 4th; both games played at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. Bremner was the highlight of the overtime loss; scoring 7 goals, 5 of them in the 3rd period. Colton Clark was the star of the 3rd and final meeting by scoring 3 goals and 3 assists. The Shamrocks have won all 12 regular season meetings thus far with the Timbermen as well as all pre-season matches prior to this season. The Timbermen defeated the Shamrocks 10-9 at the JDF Arena on April 12th and will look to carry that momentum into the Timbermen home opener.

CAPTAINS: With the losses of captains Brent Curry, Kevin Lohr and Matt Maughan, the Timbermen will look upon all returning players to lead this team throughout the 2009 season. “We have challenged every player to step up and lead!” No permanent captains have been named thus far.

FRANCHISE RECORD AWAITS: With the Timbermen improving on their regular season record each year (0-21 / 2-19 / 5-16 / 7-14) and now reaping the benefits of players from the first midget draft in 2007, the T-Men are confident that their team will work very hard to surpass last seasons record and climb up the BCJLL standings in 2009.

Timbermen Defeat Shamrocks in Preseason Action

April 12, 2009
BC Junior Lacrosse preseason action began this weekend and so did the Island rivalry for ’09 between the Victoria Jr. Shamrocks and the Nanaimo Jr. Timbermen. The Timbermen and Shamrocks faced each other at the Juan de Fuca Arena on Easter Sunday in front of a surprisingly large crowd. This was the second exhibition game in as many days for the Shamrocks but only the first for the visiting Timbermen.

The Timbermen fell behind early in the game by two goals but kept composed throughout the period and persevered with Kyle Hofer scoring the first T-Men goal. Kyle Noble tied the game a few shifts later but with just over a minute to go, Victoria rifled in two quick goals to take a first period lead 4-2 into the dressing room.

The second period was back and forth action throughout. When the Shamrocks scored, Nanaimo had an answer and rallied each time. Each team scored 3 goals each but momentum was quickly turning as the bigger Victoria team began to lose their composure with some undisciplined play allowing the Timbermen to gain confidence during the second frame; period score now 7-5.

Name G A Pts
Riley Donahue 1 3 4
Kyle Hofer 3 0 3
Doug Langlois 3 0 3
Kyle Noble 1 2 3
Johnny Diplock 1 1 2
Issac Haack 1 0 0
Sam Kobe 0 1 1
Cody Rainaldi 0 1 1
Ethan Garland 0 1 1
Mitch Bancroft 0 1 1
Greg Simpson 0 1 1

The beginning of the third was delayed to allow for the officials to sort out penalties from the second period. With the period underway, the Timbermen played composed and disciplined lacrosse and tallied goal after goal. The third period was virtually dominated by the T-Men as they hustled to each loose ball and out ran the Shamrocks up and down the floor. Two late goals made the game close and exciting but that was as close as the ‘Rocks would make it as the game ended with the visiting Timbermen taking home a 10-9 victory and a psychological victory; gaining its first win over its Island rivals since their inception.

Next action for the Timbermen is versus the Senior A Timbermen in Campbell River on Saturday April 18th. Game time is 4:00pm.

Exhibition Games this Month

This season, the Jr. A Timbermen will travel to Victoria to face the Shamrocks at the Juan de Fuca Arena on Sunday April 12th, 2009. In an exhibition game. Face-off is at 4:00pm.

One, Two Punch Return for 2009

March 9, 2009

The Nanaimo Jr A Timbermen Lacrosse Club is pleased to announce the signing of 2 players pivotal players from last season. Colton Clark and Cody Bremner will be back in action for the 'Men in Plaid' for the 2009 box lacrosse season.

Colton Clark was born and raised in the Hub City and is in his 2nd year with the Jr. Timbermen. He accumulated 30 goals, 31 assists and just 10 PIM's in 21 games in his rookie season. His 6' 2" 190 lb. body was a huge asset. This right-handed shot was 2nd only to Bremner in points with 61. Having Colton return to the Timbermen once his studies are over at Bellarmine will be a huge plus as the Jr. Timbermen look to move up the standings while chopping down their opponents in '09.

Cody Bremner is currently playing hockey for the Victoria Grizzlies Jr. A hockey club who hosts the Royal Bank Cup (May 2-10). The 6' 1" 185 lb., left-handed Victoria product played all 21 games last season for the Jr. Timbermen, amassing 42 goals, 22 assists for 64 points and 33 PIM's during that span. He played all 4 playoff games, achieving 4 goals and 11 assists. His achievements did not go unnoticed as he was named the leagues Rookie of the Year and was named to the 1st All-Star team.

Clark has 2 years remaining in Jr. lacrosse while Bremner will have 3. Both are working hard to keep in top condition as the 2009 Jr. Timbermen take shape.

Nanaimo's Invitational Training Camp takes place from Friday March 27th to Sunday March 29th. Those invited must get their registration forms in by March 15th or you can lose your spot to a player wishing to attend as a walk-on. Walk-on players can contact Coach Leies at tyson@jrtimbermen.com to attend camp. Check back to this website for more information as more signings occur.

Returning Players Sign for 2009

March 1, 2009

The Nanaimo Jr A Timbermen Lacrosse Club is pleased to announce the signing of 2 players from last season.

Trevor Gains is a strong right handed defender who can transition the ball up floor and create fast-break opportunities. The 6' 1" 210 lb. Victoria product played 12 games last season for the New Westminster Salmonbellies, amassing 1 goal, 4 assists and 47 PIM's during that span. He played 6 of 7 playoff games, achieving 1 assist and 4 minutes in penalties.

Kyle Noble hails from the Hub City and is in his 2nd year with the Jr. Timbermen. He accumulated 5 goals, 9 assists and 0 PIM's in 16 games in his rookie season. His 6' 0" 185 lb. frame helped him become a steady tranisitional player. An unfortunate injury last season kept him from the line-up for 3 weeks but he is fit and ready to go for 2009.

Gains is in his final season and Noble has 2 years remaining. Both are working hard to keep a roster spot on the 2009 Jr. Timbermen.

Greg is more of a 'stay at home' defender whom can anchor a defensive core group of players along with the likes of returnees like Whittaker, Kelly and Brown.

Both players have 3 years of Jr. lacrosse eligibilty and are quite excited to travel the Malahat to secure a roster spot on the 2009 Jr. Timbermen.

Nanaimo "Gains" Defensive Boost

February 11, 2009
The Nanaimo Timbermen acquired the playing rights to Trevor Gains on Sunday February 8th during the 2009 midget draft.

The 6' 1", 210 lb. defender was sent to the Timbermen by the New Westminster Salmonbellies as well as New West's 2nd round draft pick in the 2010 midget draft; in exchange, the Timbermen traded one of their 3rd round picks (21st overall). New Westminster with that selection, chose Brandon Bull from the Langley Minor Lacrosse Association.

"Trevor's experience in the 2007 Minto Cup and previous 2 years play with the Salmonbellies we hope will rub off on our young team and boost the level of defensive play for our 5th year franchise", states Head Coach, Tyson Leies. "His leadership qualities are definitely going to be a huge asset with the loss of players such as Curry, Lohr, Maughan and Thomas".

Dave Bremner comments, "Trevor will be a huge part of our defensive unit. He is very fit and has been preparing for this season for months now. We like nothing more than to have Trevor help lead our young squad into the 2009 Jr. lacrosse season and give us just that little extra to get us in to being a top contender in this league. We feel that we will be there this year and Trevor will help us tremendously!"

Nanaimo and Burnaby Trade Picks Prior to Draft

February 6, 2009
The Nanaimo Timbermen and the Burnaby Lakers have announced a pre-draft swap of first round picks in the Midget Draft set for Sunday, February 8th.

Nanaimo acquires Burnaby's first round pick in 2009, at #8 overall. In exchange, Burnaby acquires Nanaimo's, first and third round picks in the 2010 draft.

"This worked well for both clubs," said Forbes Mitchell, GM of the Nanaimo Timbermen. We have a very young and talented core group now, and we feel confident that we will come out of the 2009 draft with some very high caliber lacrosse players."

Returning Players Re-sign - New Season Enthusiasms

February 5, 2009

The Nanaimo Jr A Timbermen Lacrosse Club is pleased to announce the signing of 3 players from last seasons much improved Jr. Timbermen.

Johnny Diplock returns to the Jr. Timbermen for his final year of Junior eligibility. The 5' 9", 180 lb. right handed forward had 10 goals, 10 assists for 20 points in just 13 games last season. His box prowess slowly returned to him after returning home from Lindenwood University. Focusing on his studies back at home for this scholastic year and training vigorously for his final Jr. year was his main priority.

Todd Whittaker also returns for his 3rd and final season of Jr. 'A' lacrosse. After a very productive rookie campaign; 5 goals, 6 assists for 11 points in 19 games as a defensive/transitional player, Todd was sidelined for all but 2 games last season with an unfortunate leg injury. His passion for the game and his will be make the Jr. Timbermen a 'household name' in the BCJLL for years to come; has driven Todd this off-season to rehabilitate hard and prepare himself physically for the 2009 season.

Morgan Mitchell was in his rookie season last year, playing in 14 of 21 games. Holding a spot on last years Team Scotland U19 Field Lacrosse roster and a nagging leg injury kept him from 7 games. His face-off abilities and transitional style of lacrosse was quite an asset with the Timbermen moving to a more 'team' threat of lacrosse.

Pre-Draft Swap and Player Acquisition

February 1, 2009
The Nanaimo Jr A Timbermen Lacrosse Club is pleased to announce a trade with the Delta Islanders in this coming 2009 British Columbia Lacrosse Association Midget Draft; taking place in Port Coquitlam, BC on Sunday February 8th at 10:00am.

The Timbermen (3rd pick overall) exchange first round picks with Delta (5th pick overall), moving down in the draft by two picks; also acquiring in the trade are the playing rights to an offensive standout, Riley Donahue.

Riley resides in Kamloops where he was a member of the Kamloops Venom Jr. B lacrosse club. In his first year of senior lacrosse, he tallied 26 goals, 17 assists for 43 points in just 14 games; good enough for 4th in TOJLL scoring. A right handed scoring threat, Riley can play a transitional or an offensive role and is accustomed to hard-hitting action.

His statistics and his 6' 2", 185 lb. frame earned him a spot on the TOJLL Jr. B Allstar team last season and also helped him win 'Rookie of the Year' honours; all as a 17 year old midget graduate.

The Timbermen welcome Riley to the Timbermen lacrosse family!
